2008 CENTEX SUPER SERIES

The Centex Super Series is a series of tournaments to be held throughout Central Texas during the 2008 softball season.  The Series will be a total of 12 tournaments held from January through June and played at 7 different ballparks.  It is designed to produce one champion in each division from the Central Texas area although teams from outside of Central Texas are welcome to play.  Each qualifying tournament will only have one Men’s division of play.  It is open to all teams; however, the “4-Run Equalizer Rule” will be used (see below).  This rule is designed to help keep all teams on an even playing field and is necessary when combining teams from different classifications into one bracket.  All Men’s teams that play in at least two Centex Super Series events will automatically qualify for the Centex Super Series Finals which will be held on June 28-29th at Krieg Field in Austin.  We will also have both a Women’s division and a Coed division for the Finals and a few other select tournaments.  Since there are fewer events for Women and Coed, teams will only have to play in one Centex event in order to qualify for the Finals.

$$ CASH PAYOUT AT THE FINALS $$

The 2008 Series will provide for a “Cash Payout” at the Finals for all divisions regardless of how many teams enter the Finals.  For each qualifying tournament, $20 per team will go into the “Kitty” which will be divided among the top 4 teams at the Finals.  The following is a hypothetical example of how the cash payout will work:

·         There are a total of 10 Qualifying Tournaments

·         There is an average of 25 teams per tournament or 250 total teams

·         10 X 25 = 250 Total Teams Entering the Centex Super Series

·         250 X $20 = $5000 into the “Kitty”

·         1st Place = 50% of $5000 or $2500

·         2nd Place = 25% of $5000 or $1250

·         3rd Place = 15% of $5000 or $750

·         4th Place = 10% of $5000 or $500

The example above is geared towards the Men’s Division; however, both the Women’s Division and the Coed Division will have a cash payout at the Finals as well.

A running total of the “Kitty” will be posted on www.swall-starsports.com for all divisions so that all teams can see how much they will be competing for on June 28-29th.

TOURNAMENT RULES

The 2008 USSSA Rule Book will govern the Centex Super Series; however, the following exceptions will be made:

·         Men’s homerun limit will be 4 (after 4, homeruns are outs) if at least one B team enters the tournament, 2 if at least one C team enters the tournament and 0 if only D/E teams enter the tournament

·         Women’s homerun limit will be 2 (after 2, homeruns are outs)

·         Coed homerun limit will be a maximum of 2 per gender

·         All games will be a 55 minute time limit or 7 innings

·         1 Courtesy runner per inning (last out made)

·         Balls must be purchased at the park

·         Acceptable forms of payment are cash, cashier’s check, money order or company check.  Credit cards and personal checks will no longer be accepted

4-RUN EQUALIZER RULE

For the Centex Super Series, teams will be classified according to the rules and guidelines set forth by the United Softball Committee.  The “4-Run Equalizer Rule” will work as follows:

·         B teams shall spot C teams 4 runs, D teams 8 runs and E teams 12 runs (1, 2 or 3 runs per inning for the first 4 innings)

·         C teams shall spot D teams 4 runs and E teams 8 runs (1 or 2 per inning for the first 4 innings)

·         D teams shall spot E teams 4 runs (1 per inning for the first 4 innings)

Southwest All-Star Sports reserves the right to amend the Equalizer Rule at any time should tournament statistics show that 4 runs is either too much or not enough.

ROSTERS

Rosters for all teams must be input online at www.usssa.com before a team will be allowed to compete in the Centex Super Series.

Teams may add and drop players freely up until June 5th as long as the additions to the team do not change the team’s classification.  On June 5th, rosters will be frozen, however, teams are still allowed up to 4 moves (refer to USSSA Rule Book) the rest of the year.

Rosters for the Finals will be printed out on Friday morning, June 27th.  No additions to the roster will be allowed once they are printed.

Any requests to drop down in classification will be addressed by the United Softball Committee and all decisions by the USC will be final.

TEAM SEEDINGS FOR THE FINALS

All teams that qualify for the Finals will be seeded according to USSSA points as of 6/23/08.  Teams can view their USSSA points at any time by going to www.usssa.com.  In the event of a tie, the team that played in the most Centex Super Series events will be seeded higher.  If teams are still tied, the team that signs up for the Finals first will receive the higher seeding.
